We are almost a year old and have accomplished some great things.... with much bigger and grassrootsier things coming up! ;)

Everything from Digital Graffiti to an all out Viral campaign to sabotaging public places for exposure!!!!!

Reflections

I've never been much of a blogger type of person so bear with me.

I've been interning at BeatNik for the past couple of weeks now. Marketing and public relations has always been an interest of mine for a long time but I wasn't really sure if this was going to be something I wanted to do for a career.

However, marketing/advertising/PR all give you unlimited ways of being able to utilize your creativity and intellect. There is so much you can do and the best part is actually enjoying what you do. Being happy while working is very important to me. You don't feel like you're working, you feel like you're having a good time.

In this radical age we live in so many things are changing, almost overnight. The old rules of marketing are being rewritten and new ideas are fueling a tremendous growth in untapped potential that's just ripe for the picking. It's very exciting and I feel incredibly lucky to be at the start of this new beginning.

BeatNik is an amazing place for me, and others, to gain the experience we will need later and I greatly appreciate that I can contribute my ideas to something worthwhile and be a part of this progressive marketing agency.

1st day drawing on my folder

sooo today's my first day and im loving it so far...i feel better than ever about changing my major and postponing my graduation for yet another year...but its okay now cuz i know im going into something im gonna love...i was a little bit nervous about giving input cuz what i was use to doing for my sorority was okay but i wasnt sure how much more awesome the idea needed to be for a paying client...but the nerves are gone and im really enjoying it cant wait to graduate and be doing this as my job and not just as an internship...im looking forward to summer school now so i can just come here instead of class...i actually like my classes (minus one which is PR) and im doing really well in them so its exciting a well...my favorite part is the decorating of my folder cuz its something i perfected during my business law class a few semesters ago lol...but it's really great so far except for this whole blogging thing lol its my first time and its just different but its cool haha....but all in all im really glad i decided to go through with getting an internship i was thinking about waiting till the fall to look for an internship but sylvia came to our class and talked about interning with BeatNik and i loved the unconventional campaigns because thats what i think stands out most...sometimes the ideas i thought about for my sorority were a little too big but here its what BeatNiks about so im really glad to be interning in a place that thinks outside the box....i cant wait to see what else is to come :)....

Beat Nik Day 5:

starting to like the whole idea of a different type of ad agency. funny and quirky is the correct terminology I would use. Us interns had a creative session to come up with a name for a car show the more I work with my fellow interns the more I can tell this will be a very unique experience. Brings back memories of certain episodes from the office. funny thing is I never thought I'd find an ad agency to fit into like the way I feel I have here. Beat Nik incubates our creativity and our passion for advertising.

My First Blog

So my name is Varely:)!!!

I am volunteering at BeakNik Agency as part of the UTPA Externship for a wholeee week.

Even though my major is Spanish and I want to pursue education, Aracely (our program director) chose to put me here so I can look at other careers and see what it is like to be out in the world.

I was supposed to start on Monday of this week, but for some reason I was told to show up at 8 a.m. and being so punctual [NOT] I was here at 7:50 am!.... lol half asleep I waited to around 8:35 and since no one showed up Aracely's assistant told me to go home.... and so I did and I slept zzzzzzzz.....

So finally after having good communication, I was told to show up at 9 am the next day....

Lol, but the day was barely starting and due to a cold, whooshing rain the building was left without internet. The hours passed by slowly, but I got to talk to Sylvia (my sponsor) and learn about social media.

I also got to meet Ralph, RC and I can't remember the two sale guys... sorry.

Wednesday was really exciting!!!!

I was able to go with Sylvia to meet with a new client (famous car company).

I listened to all the social media BeatNik could offer for them and they really liked it :).

Today I'm writing my first blog ever!!! So dispense it if its kinda weird :D

I actually like venting like this and might make it a habit... watch out...

This agency is so down to earth and awesome lol

MY FIRST BLOG FOR MR.NIK....

Date: March 18, 2010

(a day after st.pattys go green day)

Time: 10:28am

Where: BeatNik Headquarters

Who: Lily Cantu(the new intern)

Why: why not???

So, I officially started as an intern this past Monday, March 15th.

The first assignment I had from Nik was to look for a viral campaign

that amazed me, I chose a living Barbie campaign in a mexican super huge mall.

Anyways, I can't wait to start working on a campaign, pitch in ideas, go out

to the street to do crazy, spontaneous stuff!!! And show Mr. Nik what I can do.

Everybody has been really cool. I like the atmosphere of the headquarters, and

the tenants that give life to it.

How did I get here?

It was thanks to Sylvia!!! She made an appearance on Dr. Guerra's

media law class :/ on a random class day that was expected to be boring.

To my surprise she started talking to us about the cool stuff that Mr. Nik

has under his supervision and what the team has done. I was surprised.

Right before she left she talked to the class about opportunities with Mr. Nik,

it took me like a month to get here but here I am now. Ready for whatever

crazy thing we might do. I really, really can't wait!!!!!!
